The average American reads 12 books a year. Most successful people will say that reading is what helped set them apart, learn new concepts and learn from others’ trials and tribulations.
Tourism is a business so reading business books on the regular is one of the best ways to keep growing in your role. Business books can be dry, and not always apply to our industry. After all, we sell experiences and memories, not widgets.
Books Suggestions at Tourism Pro Academy
I love to read and when I created the Tourism Pro Academy in 2019, I added an area with books I recommend. Over the last year I created short videos explaining why I found them helpful and added a link if you would like to purchase directly from Amazon. I finally finished up the videos recently, and you can check them out at TourismProAcademy.com.
Just sign in with your name and email and you will be able to check out the books and reviews ( and see how my hairstyles have changed over the past year!!)
You can order any books directly from Amazon ( I do get a small commission that does not affect your pricing) or start a list to download from your local library.
Do you have a favorite book that isn’t listed? Let me know and we will add it to the list!
May 2020 Resources
For DMO Offices
As your regions begin to open up, you are probably seeing a lot of new faces- some without much experience. We are noticing salespeople without a lot of sales training, and people working multiple roles and needing time management help. You are probably stretched thin as well and have limited resources. I worked at a DMO for 5 years and I know there is always a need for training – but never enough time and money. Here are two ways I can help you:
- Hire me to provide some online training. I have programs ready to go, and my team will do all the work of sending out the registration, a reminder the day of the program, and a follow-up survey with additional resources. Best of all, we record the program so you can build a library of resources for your partners. My clients tell me the presentations are easy to understand and give their partners tools for action and follow-up. Popular topics include: Build your Network, Time Management, Create a Tourism Plan using a S.W.O.T. analysis. Prices start at just $995 for a 1-hour webinar program.
- Have no budget but are looking for a way to provide learning tools? We can set up a coupon code for my entire TourismProAcademy platform that you can promote to your partners. Your partners can choose their online courses and you provide a 10% discount code that they can use. They get smarter and you are the hero for providing some incentive. Win -win!
For my Supplier Friends
Check out the courses at TourismProAcademy and pick one that you can take before the busy summer season starts. Would you like a free half-hour consulting call with me? Just get your DMO to sign up for a webinar program (see above) and once that program is complete, we will schedule your free consulting call. This is $150 value and we can focus on what you need to move forward in your business.
Can I ask a Favor?
I am a goal setter and I want to have 2000 readers by the end of this summer. Can you forward this email to two other tourism professionals you know? If you work at a DMO or Tourism Organization, I would love it if you would encourage your partners to sign up to receive my weekly posts. Thank you! Just click here to be added to the mailing list.
